Information Appeal

As part of preserving the memory of our townsfolk killed in the service of our country, we are keen to create an archive of related material that will be accessible to future generations, so they can appreciate and learn from those who have gone before. We are therefore keen to track down material relating to the service personnel whose names appear in the Rolls of Honour. Especially details of any individual who may not currently be listed on the Rolls, but whose name rightfully should be there. We will investigate thoroughly and rigorously any such cases brought to our attention.

We are also keen to obtain any material relating to the memorial itself and its construction or dedication etc. Here are a couple of examples of two such documents that are currently held in the archive, each of which have now become of historical significance in their own right:-

If you have any similar material or information that you wish to pass to us please contact us in the first instance through -

If you are planning to visit Wednesbury and wish to bring along any such materials that you think will be of interest to us please make prior arrangements to deposit such material with Wednesbury Museum. All materials should be left with the museum but clearly marked -

'Archive Material For Attention of Wednesbury War Memorial Group'
C/O Wednesbury Museum & Art Gallery

Details of opening times for the Museum along with a multi-map of its location can be found at the Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council webpages for the museum.

Other examples of archival materials that would be of great interest to our Group would centre around the lives of the service personnel whose names appear on the memorial. Such material could include:

  • Citations & obituaries.
  • Newspaper clippings.
  • Photographs (particularly service life images etc).
  • Military records.
  • Personal diaries, papers, letters that cover their service period.
  • Memorabilia that relate to an individual (such as uniform items, decoration ribbons etc).

(If you have information regarding any of the service personnel appearing on the list that you would like to share please do get in touch with us)

(We will ensure any items donated to the Memorial Group will remain within the public domain, and will be passed to a public repository should for any reason the Group cease to exist in the future).
